This short animated film serves as a preview to the book Talking Heads: The Vent Haven Portraits by Matthew Rolston. It begins with a short narrative giving context and background to the project and is followed by a series of sample pages, finally concluding with a portfolio of imagery from the book.
Published by Pointed Leaf Press, Talking Heads features Rolston’s portraits of vintage ventriloquist dummies from the obscure Vent Haven Museum in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky.
The publication – carefully guided by Susan Slesin, Pointed Leaf Press’ editorial director, and designed by creative director Sam Shahid – showcases the imagery in a deluxe edition printed by one of Italy’s premier bookmakers on luxurious rag paper, featuring more than 100 portraits with 10 gatefold pages and the accompaniment of several essays, including one by the photographer.
